Scan an item Windows Defender for Windows 10
There are two ways to use Windows Defender scanning. If you use another antivirus, you can scan your PC regularly with Windows 10 Limited Periodic Scanning. If you already use Windows Defender as an anti-virus program, use the Windows Defender scanning menu to ensure that certain files or folders are safe. Both scans immediately alert you when there is a threat.
To enable periodic limited scanning, go to Settings – > Updates & Security, then select Limited periodic scan. To scan certain files or folders, select the ones you want, right-click, then choose Scan with Windows Defender. Open Windows Defender, select the Custom Scan option in the Windows Defender user interface, select the folder that you want to scan, and then click Scan Now.
Using limited regular scanning will not activate the Windows Defender real-time protection feature, nor will it replace your antivirus. To activate Windows Defender, open Windows Defender, click Turn on, search for antivirus in the Apps & Features, then uninstall the existing antivirus. Windows Defender will then be activated automatically.
